Fairley is Lions' ninth starter to be placed on injured reserve

ALLEN PARK — Injuries can not be used as an excuse in the NFL because every team deals with them. But to be honest, some teams more than others.

When the Lions placed Nick Fairley on injured reserve on Wednesday, he was the ninth starter on the list.

That’s a ton and does partially explain the Lions 4-10 record as they prepare to play Atlanta on Saturday night.

Fairley joins CB Jacob Lacey (knee), RB Jahvid Best (concussion), CB Bill Bentley (shoulder), WR Ryan Broyles (knee), WR Nate Burleson (knee), S Amari Spievey (concussion), DT Corey Williams (knee) and WR Titus Young (knee).

The Lions signed DT Ogembi Ngawbuo, a former Michigan State Spartan, to take Fairley's spot on the roster.
