After loss at Arizona, Calvin Johnson still on pace to break Jerry Rice's record

When this Lions season is mercilessly over, there won’t be many memories for fans to cherish.

However, Calvin Johnson might provide one bright spot. It won’t be enough to make up for whatever the disappointing record will be, but it will be at least something.

Johnson had 10 catches for 121 yards in the 38-10 loss at Arizona on Sunday. That means he needs 182 yards over the next two games to break Jerry Rice’s single season receiving yards record.

On his way there, Johnson continues to set records.

 — He has surpassed 1,600 receiving yards this season, becoming the first receiver in NFL history with back-to-back 1,600-yard seasons.

— The man known as Megatron joins wide receiver Marvin Harrison (1999, 2001) and wide receiver Torry Holt (2,000 and 2003) as the only players in NFL history with two 1,600-yard receiving seasons.

— Johnson becomes only the third player in NFL history to register 1,600 yards in the first 14 games of the season and he’s the first to do so since wide receiver Lance Alworth (1,602) in 1965. Wide receiver Charley Hennigan has the most through 14 games with 1,746 in 1961.

— Johnson has now caught more than 100 receptions this season, and he is now the third player in team history to record 100 receptions in a season. Johnson is the first to accomplish this since wide receiver Herman Moore had 104 receptions in 1997.
